Welcome to the Machine :-)

We’ve just launched v1.0 of the GigaTools API ūüôā

You can now sign up for an API Key and query the full listing of public Gigs, broken up by city, country, venue and date range.

We will shortly publish full documentation on the API, if you’re in a hurry to get started, get in touch via email.

If you’re currently using the public XML or JSON feeds via gigs.gigatools.com then you should sign up for an API Key and make the transition to the new API asap as we will be phasing these feeds out by the end of 2013.

Take a look at http://api.gigatools.com

Add images to each of your Gigs!

We’ve added in the ability for you to upload custom images per Gig!

Simply hit the ‘ADD EXTRA INFO‘ link when editing your Gig information and click the ‘Choose File‘ button, choose a JPG or PNG file and hit Submit!

These Images will display on your Gigs Listing Page and be available via your Gigs Feeds. We will integrate these images into our Facebook App shortly too.

Custom Gigs Listings

This is a great example of a custom Gigs listing built on the GigaTools App. using JSON / XML feeds by German artist Chief Rokka http://www.chiefrokka.com/concerts/

And check out the new site for Compact Disco, a Hungarian electronic-rock band, with their kick ass custom Gigs listing http://compactdisco.hu/en

And take a look at the awesome custom Gigs listing built by the guys at http://organism.ca for Berlin based Clonk Bookings. Clonk handle the Bookings for electronica luminaries such as Richie Hawtin and his M_NUS label artists.

External Feed Reading

We have had some questions recently about how best to synchronise GigaTools to an external Gigs feed from one of the applications we connect to.

GigaTools reads your external Gigs feeds twice (2 times) per day so if you’ve recently added Gigs via your external software,¬†it can take up to 12 hours for these to show up in your GigaTools listings.

In order for a Gig to be successfully imported into GigaTools, that Gig needs to have data for Venue, City & Country. If any one of those 3 required pieces of data are not present, that Gig will not be imported.

If you wish to change any of the information in a Gig, do so via your external software. Any changes you make to a Gig via the external software will be read by GigaTools the next time it reads the feeds.

If you change the information in a Gig on GigaTools this information may be overwritten by the information in your external Gigs feed when it is next read.

If you wish to delete or cancel a Gig after it has been imported into GigaTools, you should do this via the GigaTools admin site.

What happens when i upgrade?

Are you an existing GigaTools customer and you want to upgrade your Account? Here is how it works.

When you upgrade or crossgrade from an existing GigaTools Account to a different Account, we charge you for the new Account and credit you with the unused time remaining from your previous Account. So for example if you have a Single Account that expires in 6 months and you want to upgrade to a Twin Account, GigaTools will charge you for a new Twin Account (£3 / Month Р£36 / Year) and then credit you for the unused 6 months of your old Single Account at the value of the Twin Account.

So we take the 6 months at the Single price  (6 x £2 = £12) then credit that to the new Twin Account (£12 / £3 = 4 Months) So the new Twin Account will have an expiry date of 1 Year and 4 Months.

If you have any questions regarding this just contact us.

Facebook Policy Changes

As of November 2012, Facebook have changed the way apps like GigaTools can act on your behalf to make posts on your Facebook pages and profile.

Previously you could give permission to apps like GigaTools to act on your behalf indefinitely and if you wanted to disable this ability you could simply disconnect your GigaTools profile from your Facebook profile.

Facebook have now changed these rules which unfortunately means you will now have to reconnect GigaTools to Facebook every 60 days in order for GigaTools to be able to announce your Gigs and create events on your behalf.

This change to the Facebook rules will effect every app that you grant permission to, to act on your behalf when you’re not logged in to Facebook.

We realise that this change by Facebook is a major inconvenience to everyone and we have taken steps to make this as painless as possible for all GigaTools users.

Handy new feature for developers

We’ve just added in a handy new feature for developers who are building their own custom widgets and GigaTools Gigs listings.

Previously if you wanted all the Gigs for a given artist, that is both upcoming and past Gigs, you needed to read 2 different XML feeds. We’ve just simplified this by creating one single feed for all the Gigs, future and past, by adding in a simple URL parameter: ‘showall=true’
